Practical tips for successful fishing in Morbihan
At low tide, theforeshore is revealed, and with it a whole host of more or less visible marine flora and fauna. Between the rocks or in the sand, it’s time to find shellfish and crustaceans. Fun and relaxing, shore fishing is accessible to all. But it does require vigilance!
The first rule of safety is to be aware of tide times. The sea can rise very quickly and take you by surprise. The risk is to find yourself surrounded, on a rocky islet or a raised strip of sand.
The second rule concerns the size and quantity of fish you are allowed to catch. It’s essential to ask at thetourist office or town hall about any temporary restrictions.
In addition to a claw, bucket, boots andlanding net, you’ll need a small measuring device to attach to your basket, so you can measure the size of the shellfish in the numbers or kilos allowed.
For successful shellfishing, choose the days with the highest tidal coefficients. Then look out for the little holes left in the sand by the shell, and dig carefully to extract it! You just might see your first clam appear…
